We're thrilled to announce that KPBJ 95.9FM has been recognized by the National Community Radio Association for our innovative underground music programming. This award celebrates our commitment to showcasing emerging artists and providing a platform for voices that often go unheard in mainstream media.

The Excellence in Underground Programming Award recognizes community radio stations that consistently push boundaries and create spaces for experimental, underground, and marginalized musical voices. KPBJ was selected from over 200 community radio stations across the country for this prestigious recognition.

"KPBJ represents the true spirit of community radio - fearless, authentic, and deeply connected to the underground music scene. Their programming consistently discovers and elevates artists who might otherwise remain unheard."

- Maria Rodriguez, Director, National Community Radio Association

What This Means for Our Community

This recognition validates what we've always known - that Shadow Hills and the broader community have an incredible appetite for authentic, underground music. Since launching in 2018, we've featured over 500 local and regional artists, many of whom got their first radio play right here on KPBJ.

Our programming philosophy has always been simple: if it moves us, challenges us, or represents an authentic voice in the underground, we'll play it. This award recognizes shows like DJ Nyx's "The Midnight Frequency," which has become a launching pad for experimental electronic artists, and "Sounds from the Shadows" with Marcus T, which focuses exclusively on emerging local hip-hop and spoken word artists.

Looking Forward

The award comes with a $5,000 grant that we're investing directly back into our programming. We're planning to expand our live session series, upgrade our recording equipment, and launch a new initiative to provide free studio time for emerging artists in the Shadow Hills area.

We're also excited to announce that this recognition has opened doors for partnerships with other underground-focused stations across the country. Look for some exciting collaborative programming announcements in the coming months.

Thank You to Our Community

This award belongs to everyone who makes KPBJ possible - our incredible volunteer hosts, the artists who trust us with their music, and most importantly, the listeners who tune in and support our mission. Underground radio survives because communities like ours believe in its value.

Here's to continuing to amplify the voices that matter, challenge the mainstream, and keep the underground alive on the airwaves. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

So well deserved! KPBJ has been my go-to for discovering new music for years. The Midnight Frequency alone has introduced me to dozens of artists I never would have found otherwise. Congratulations to the whole team!

This is amazing news! Community radio is so important and KPBJ proves that there's still space for authentic, non-commercial programming. Can't wait to see what you do with the grant money!

Been listening since day one and this recognition is long overdue! The programming here is consistently excellent and genuinely different from anything else on the dial.
