KPBJ 95.9FM began in 2018 as a response to the homogenization of radio. Founded by a collective of underground music enthusiasts, artists, and community organizers in Shadow Hills, we saw the need for a platform that would amplify voices often excluded from mainstream media.

What started as a low-power FM experiment in a converted garage has grown into the region's most trusted source for underground music, experimental sounds, and authentic community programming. We've remained true to our founding principle: radio should reflect the full spectrum of human experience, not just what sells.

Today, KPBJ operates 24/7 with over 40 volunteer hosts, reaches thousands of listeners across Shadow Hills and beyond, and continues to discover and champion artists who push boundaries and challenge conventions. Every show, every song, every conversation is chosen because it matters—not because it's popular.

We believe radio should be more than background noise. It should be a space for discovery, connection, and genuine expression. KPBJ exists to:
